Yet…

Well, I’ll tell you what, folks. It’s like this here Metal Shredder they’re fixin’ to bring in is one mighty sorry piece of news. It’s gonna mess things up real bad, you can bet your boots on that. The rules seem to be favorin’ them big shots with all the money, not us regular folks. And what are we gettin’ out of it? Nothin’ but a measly fifteen jobs.

Fifteen jobs, I reckon, ain’t worth all the ruckus it’s gonna cause. Gonna be makin’ the air all dirty, makin’ a whole lot of noise, shakin’ everything up like nobody’s business. Trucks gonna be all over the place, raisin’ who knows what kind of ruckus. People might get sick, life’s gonna get tougher for everyone, and our homes ain’t gonna be worth much no more. Our neighborhood might just turn into a place for workin’ instead of a place for folks to live, and our parks and water might be in danger.

And all this fuss for just fifteen measly jobs! Don’t make no sense when there’s plenty of work to be had just ‘cross the street. Those other businesses, they’re helpin’ our town grow, and the money’s stayin’ right here instead of headin’ off somewhere else. And the reason they’re givin’ for bringin’ in that shredder? Well, it just ain’t good enough, that’s for sure.

Fifteen jobs, I tell you, ain’t worth it, ‘specially with that school right nearby. Them kids already got it tough, and now they might have to deal with bad air and all the other problems that come with that darned shredder. Seen it happen in other places, too. Air gets so bad near them things, folks gettin’ sick left and right.

Other towns, they’ve seen what happens when them big shots get their way. But we ain’t gotta sit back and take it. No, sir. We don’t gotta put up with all that noise, that dirty air, and all the rest. Not yet, anyways.

So what can we do to keep things the way they are? Might mean we gotta feel a bit uncomfortable for a spell, but it’ll be worth it in the end. We can write some letters, talk to folks ’round the way, and come together to let everyone know what’s goin’ on. If we all stick together, we can make a difference, you mark my words.

Let’s take charge and make sure we don’t gotta put up with that ol’ shredder for years to come. Let’s act now and not look back.
