Save The Waterfront, with legal council, is doing the research to force ABC to do what’s right.

We need you to let them know its important to you. Don’t worry about the details. Just tell them how your life is or will be impacted, and what you are worried about for Bellingham and the environment.

Write and Speak - March 11th is the next City Council Meeting

Below are topics and email addresses

At the afternoon meeting of the Council of the Whole, the Council we review a memorandum of understanding to establish and describe a collaborative effort between the City and County for the sharing of lead agency responsibilities under the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA), chapter 43.21C RCW, to conduct an environmental review for the ABC recycling
facility project proposed by ABC (Applicant).

Please write to the Council before Monday March 7th, in support.

Metal Pile Topics: See the flier here for more points of concern

1) Noise – The noise of the ship loading. Hours, disturbance, sleep, etc.

2) Air – The clouds of dust. What are in them? Where do they go?

3) Water – Heavy metals have been found in ABC’s stormwater, and the Department of Ecology is requiring ABC to have their own Permit. This must be done with care and concern for the dangers that the metal brings to the Bay.

4) Land Use – Heavy Industrial is a non-permitted activity. The Scrap Metal Pile is Heavy Industrial. It is a Recycling Collection and Processing Center.

You don’t agree that the activity is good for Bellingham or the Port. It doesn’t connect with the goals set out by the City in the Comprehensive Plan nor the Port of Bellingham’s and City’s Waterfront Plan.

Metal Shredder Topics: See the flier here for more points of concern

1) Heavy Metals and Volatile Organic Compound as air pollution – Elementary school and day cares

2) Loud noises and vibration

3) Truck Traffic – 4-5 per hour

4) Fire and Explosion hazards

5) Job loss
